THANK YOU for taking the time
and providing the dedication to make the DayTony Awards an exciting addition
to the Dayton area theater scene.
Please make your ticket
reservations following the instruction of each theater in the DayTonys
directory. You are promised one complimentary ticket. Tell the theater, when
you make your reservations, if you need to purchase additional tickets.
You must
make a reservation even if you are already a ticket holder to the event. The theater is
required to prepare your ballot. You must let them know when you are coming
and the theater you are representing.
If you are a respondent for
one theater, you may not respond for another unless this has been previously
cleared with the DayTony Committee.
Your ballot should have all
the actors listed and the theater will determine who is to rated and in
which category, i.e., LEAD, SUPPORTING, or GUEST. They will also make
suggestions for special nominations. You are free to nominate something that
you feel the theater has overlooked, however since the other respondents
will not have that listed, you should include a description including your
opinion with your ballot so the other respondents can be polled for their
opinion.
Complete your ballot quickly
after seeing the production. Your memory will fade quickly, particularly in
areas where you may not be as familiar. You might forget what the sound
design was like if you wait a week to complete your ballot. AT ALL COST,
MAIL WITHIN THE WEEK.
If possible, please make and
keep a photocopy of your ballot. We had a few lost in the mail last year. It
would be helpful to know that you have a record of your votes.
Try to separate your response
to the script from your evaluation of the production. Often, we see a show
that we don’t like because of the writing or what the author is saying. The
DayTonys are about the artists and how well they execute the production.
It’s OK to say that it was a terrific script but an average or below average
portrayal or vice versa. |
ARE YOU QUALIFIED TO EVALUATE FOR THE DAYTONYs? Yes,
you are. We created the DayTonys to give those of us who are not writing
for a newspaper or teaching at a college or appearing on Broadway an
opportunity to express our opinions. You know what you like and you know
what is good. If your opinion differs from others, that’s OK. You are not
being rated, the productions are. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK! |
DayTony 2008-2009 Official
Rating Sheet
|
| _____________________________________________________ |
All PERFORMANCES and PRODUCTIONS ASPECTS should be
rated. The new rating system is 1-10, 1 being lowest and 10 being the
highest. If an aspect is average, the rating should be a 4 or 5; below
average should rate 1,2 or 3; above average should be 6, 7, 8 or 9; saving
10 for truly outstanding.
Each show should be rated for ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE.
This should denote the performance and not the nature of the script. Think
of it in terms of the teamwork, did the group work to support each other
in the performance or was the production a group of individuals, each
working for their own goals? This is a very subjective category and
respondents would use their observations an value judgments to determine
if the cast truly appears to be supporting each other, giving and taking
moments, not focusing on the individual performances but the overall
communication with the audience. |
